whidbey...

Growing up, my family holidays were usually spent near salt water. Whether the ocean or the sound I always feel a calming sense of peace, contentment, and hope when I smell that briny scent and the air that makes my hair and skin sticky. I am so grateful to my dear high school friend Afton, who invited us to join them this past weekend to their cabin on Whidbey Island to relax.

With rain on the forecast we enjoyed the sun on the ferry deck while we floated past Chase's work in Mukilteo on our way to little paradise.
The thing about Finn, he is always excited about something. Even bedtime is an exciting event.
So you can only imagine how he loves ferry rides.
Well of course the weather man lied, because it was beautiful all weekend. We went to Fort Casey (which I haven't been to in at least 12 years on a family adventure). Finn loved running around the old fort, and almost jumping off of the cliffs.

As I mentioned earlier, the weather was beautiful, but definitely not warm enough for swimming in the Sound, which is exactly what Finn and and his pal Cooper did for 2 days (LIKE CHEST DEEP IN THE FREEZING WATER).
So I'm thinking this might be year 1 of Finn joining my brother and sister and I in our annual Christmas morning polar bear swim (Chase strongly disagrees with me about this though).

On our way home on Monday we drove to Deception Pass to throw rocks on the beach and run across the bridge.

Finn found some seaweed and was repulsed by it, as you can plainly see.

And the sign clearly stated "NO CLIMBING ON BRIDGE", which naturally my hubby did not think applied to him..... or Finn...
Two peas in a pod, I tell ya!

I'm not sure how anyone can resist these blue eyes!
We had a wonderful restful weekend, with wonderful food, and even better conversation. This week I'm preparing for finals, cleaning, and doing yoga, all the while wishing I was back on Whidbey!
