So here are some very long overdue pictures of the town we've been living in. When Chase came home and told me that we were definitely moving to the UK, I didn't think we'd get so lucky. Chester is an amazing little town with so much to do and see all in walking distance. Our apartment runs along this canal, and I walk this little stretch every day with Finn. There are often ducks and swans floating by, and we feed all of our old bread to them. Finn loves to throw the bread at the birds and watch them gobble it up quickly.
This is the old Roman wall. This wall goes around the whole city and is actually a great running trail.
Here is the River Dee. Our old house was a block up from this very spot.
Here is another shot of the Dee. This spot gets very busy during the day with lots of kids and dog walkers. There are cafes, ice creams shops and our favorite American BBQ restaurant.
Here is the canal again. Canal boats cruise along this canal all hours of the day. You can rent canal boats, people live on them, and one of the major hotels in Chester has their dinner on the canal. Chase, Finn, and I were walking along the canal the other night (we've made a little tradition of "canal walking" after dinner). Since it's been below freezing here, there was a whole sheet of ice over the canal. We watched a canal boat try to plow through the ice to break it up but it ended up just pushing 200 feet of ice down the canal. It was pretty cool to see.
This is downtown Chester, kind of the main shopping area. No cars can drive through these cobblestone streets. And we daily watch street performers, mimes, and balloon artists. Right now Christmas music is being sung or played, and Christmas lights are lighting up every inch of the city.
Chester City Center, and the library.
The Cathedral, you can hear the bells in the rectory every hour.
Tree lighting ceremony in Chester. We got to listen to the legend of the birth of stars.
Hope you're enjoying getting ready for Christmas, we are getting our little tree tonight!
